The Republic is Dead, Long Live the Aristocracy.

Or so thinks Ted Kennedy. "I'd like wife to take seat". While he might have my sympathy for his recently diagnosed cancer he doesn't for his view on his Senate seat. Too many times in recent history has a wife, son, or daughter been elevated to a seat in our federal legislature after it's vacated through death or movement to another office. I should note that it also happens at the state level as well. These are not hereditary seats, we are not an aristocracy as these people believe. They are not entitled to hold a seat and keep it in the family, that is not what this country was founded upon. Why do these so called leaders feel that they can pass it on to a member of their family, contrary to what our founders believed? One reason is not enough people say anything and are content to let it happen.
It is already bad enough when money and name recognition can keep an office in the family through elections. I can only think how many people died to rid this country of a class of entitled people and we have failed them. The way I see it, they died in vain, for nothing at all because the vanity of the politicians far outweighs their sacrifice.
